SUMMARY:Church Gift Weekend
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20060903
DESCRIPTION:10 a.m. onwards. Programme to follow. All Saints Church.\n\n
We have a different approach this year to our annual Gift Day. The churc
h will be open for the weekend of 2nd and 3rd September when we have a f
ascinating programme of services\, events and exhibitions that we hope w
ill generate some funds in return. We aim to involve as many parishioner
s as possible in the weekend. Our beautiful church\, dating back to the
12th century\, is a precious asset of which we can be justly proud and i
t is our responsibility to preserve it for future generations to be Chri
stened\, confirmed\, married and buried there. Happily even in our moder
n secular society\, it seems that the values and traditions of a christi
an upbringing are still important in our village. \n\nThe weekend will i
nclude exhibitions and guided tours\; church records going back in time\
; history of the church\; ecclesiastical silver\; communion linens\; fes
tivals\; altar frontals\; the 'priests' vestments. We would like to disp
lay mementoes of Christenings\, confirmations and weddings from 2006 to
as far back as possible. Bell-ringers will conduct tours of the ringing
chamber\, and the church clock mechanism may be viewed. An organ recital
is planned and for young children\, a Teddy Bears Picnic concert in the
church with tea party in the churchyard to follow. On Saturday evening
a concert in church will take place for adults and older children\, on t
he theme of Love\, featuring musicians and artists of the Lambourn Valle
 y. Supper will follow. Church Services are still being planned\, and the
weekend will conclude with a Songs of Praise Service when organist\, St
ephen Holmes and the choir of St. Michael and All Angels will join us. A
n important feature of the weekend will be that villagers who have been
\"born and bred\" in East Garston take part perhaps as stewards at the e
xhibitions and share with newcomers some of the stories and anecdotes of
life in East Garston in yesteryear. Of course we need funds desperately
for maintenance of the church\, but the coming together of the whole vi
llage community is perhaps even more important. \nSally Wright\n\nhttp:/

SUMMARY:Church Clear Out Day
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20070909
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday September 8th\, we are organising a day to carry
out repairs and maintenance to the church and churchyard.- Everybody is
welcome men\, women and children alike as there are many housekeeping a
nd routine jobs that need doing as well as skilled work\, such as carpen
try. We would like to make it a fun day and a family day and will be org
anising a barbeque during the midday period.\n\nChris Tonge\, Martyn Don
no\, David Knight and Micky Highnett are some of the people who have alr
eady agreed to be involved\, but we need lots more - as many as possible
. Chris\, as Chairman of the Parish Council\, has kindly agreed to lead
this project. The Parish Council working hand in hand with the Church is
a splendid example of the whole village community pulling together. The
re will be a list of all the work that needs to be undertaken and some c
areful planning to be carried out\, in order that we have all the requis
ite materials to hand. We will also need people to organise\, cook and s
erve the BBQ.\n\nIf you can help with providing materials and tools for
a wide variety of jobs including cleaning\, or with food for the barbequ
e\, please get in touch with Sally in the first instance. If you are on
holiday on the 8th September or DIY is not your preferred leisure time o
ccupation\, perhaps you may care to make a donation to the cost of mater
ials that need to be purchased. Whatever your contribution to the day\,
we shall be enormously grateful. Please get in touch (with Sally 648 679
) as soon as possible\, if you can help in any way shape or form.\n\nOur
belief is that the Church's place is at the centre of the community and
it is there for all of us whenever we need it. You do not have to be a
regular or even an occasional churchgoer - the whole parish as well as f
riends from beyond the parish are welcome. As I said at our Gift Weekend
in 2006\, “We are all stewards\, holding this ancient Church in trust\,
for the generations of East Garston people yet unborn.” So we will be m
ost grateful for your help.\nThe Reverend Tony Cumberlidge\n

SUMMARY:Church Gift Weekend
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20060904

DESCRIPTION:Joint service with Eastbury and Lambourn Parishes. Parish Lu

oin us at our 10.30am service. Since it is the season of All Saints and
All Souls\, we are suggesting that people might like to light a candle w
hich will be placed on the altar\, in memory of those recently departed\
, whose anniversary falls now\, or whom we simply want to remember. We w
ill again ask families and friends to decorate the church. We would love
as many people as possible to take part. Lunch will take place in the c
hurch after the service. Since there will be a hot chicken main course\,
it would help if you could let Sally know if you are able to join us\,
So that we can judge numbers. We realise that October 29th is River Clea
n-Up morning - so we are suggesting that it would be good if those invol
ved\, since they cannot be at the service\, come along to lunch (about 1
2noon - in river cleaning clothes) so that it is truly a parish celebrat
